One Mississippi, Two Mississippi... - #68

We left Stoughton on Friday, October 14th in better weather than originally forecasted. The rain ceased and clouds had parted enough to make room for little blue patches of sky. An encouraging start to our trip! We will be on the road 18 days to our destination in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; 11 stops along the way with many fun and interesting places to visit.

Our first two-night stopover was at a favorite casino spot in Connecticut - Mohegan Sun.  Less than 100 miles from home, this short driving leg helps us get acclimated to being back on the road and living in our tiny home. Two nights boondocking are a little more basic and challenging, since we are without any amenities - but it makes the first night we stay at any campground feel luxurious! We do enjoy the boondocking; preparation is everything - in my opinion. I brought prepared meals and we do run our generator for a short time in the morning to make coffee, charge our electronics and in the evening for dinner. The weather was so beautiful we set up our chairs, sat outside taking in the sun and listened to music. And of course, we enjoyed walking around the casino, playing the slots. (table games were not within our budget). Mohegan Sun is a really gorgeous hotel/casino. I should probably do some research to see who is responsible for designing the interior space of this property; in a word - it is - spectacular.

We left CT Sunday morning to our next stop - just one night - in Matamoras, PA at Tri-State RV Park; we have stayed here many times.

Somebody up there must be watching out for us.                                                                                    A segment of highway traveling from CT to PA was quite rough. Besides being uncomfortable as hell to passengers, all I could imagine, as we hit bump after bump, was how all this jerking would affect items inside the trailer. Then, looking in the rearview mirror - Charlie noticed the cap window above the tailgate had flipped opened.  I suggested, let's just get off, gas up and then we can close the window. While at the pump, Charlie noticed the cotter pin had come off the front of the anti-sway bar! This could have resulted in the bar breaking and hitting the trailer. How lucky were we!

Monday afternoon - stop three - we arrived in Carlisle, PA - 180 miles further west and a little bit cooler. The drive was just beautiful! Autumn colors in the northeast never disappoint! Two nights at the Western Village RV Park. On our one full day in the area, we visited the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center. This is a really interesting place with many exhibits. Unfortunately, not all the props functioned properly but it definitely gave us an opportunity to understand, appreciate more about soldiers' experience. Whenever we visit places such as these, I can't help but think of my own Dad and his service in the Army-Airforce as a gunner.

In the meantime, Minnie does her thing; watches squirrels out the window, sits on her scratching block waiting for the heat to come on, and finding new spots to sleep.

I try to get in my walking everyday; even Charlie has been walking with me a little more.  We've been eating healthy. My only issue is not being able to sleep. I am awake a lot during the night; feels like I have a lot of thoughts in my mind - good thoughts - but thoughts nevertheless. Tonight I'm going to try a different kind of melatonin.  Hopefully it will help!

Tomorrow, we head out for our last stop in PA - Mill Run.  We will be meeting up with my sister, Anne and brother-in-law Jerry and visiting a couple of very special sites together. Exciting!
